Water Quality Management Plan
Why this project matters
Teton County is creating a 20-year plan to protect and improve our water. This plan will help prevent pollution in our surface water and groundwater and fix areas where water quality is already declining.
It will guide how we manage wastewater, stormwater, and drinking water to keep our water clean and safe for the long term.
Who will benefit
Everyone in Teton County will benefit from this plan including residents, businesses, and local ecosystems. Cleaner water supports healthy people, a healthy environment, and a strong local economy.
Funding and costs
In 2022, Teton County voters approved a specific purpose excise tax (SPET)
of $10 million to protect and restore our water resources.
This funding supports key projects such as:
- The Hoback Water and Sewer District’s new clean drinking water system
- Future initiatives under the Water Quality Management Plan
Progress of the Project
- Completed (2022–2024): Teton County finished Phases 1 through 5, which included community engagement, stakeholder meetings, and drafting the Water Quality Management Plan.
- Plan adoption (2024): The Teton County Board of County Commissioners reviewed the draft plan and opened it for public comment. After community feedback was included, the Board formally adopted the Water Quality Management Plan.
